Walk the property before ordering a dumpster. A short inventory can reveal regulated items, bulky pieces, and access problems before delivery.

Sort by handling, not by room

Use four groups: ordinary household debris, reusable items, material that needs provider approval, and hazardous or regulated waste. Batteries, paint, chemicals, fluorescent lamps, and many electronics need separate handling in California. Keep them out of the general pile until you have current local instructions.

List bulky items

Write down mattresses, furniture, appliances, long shelving, doors, and unusually heavy pieces. Do not assume an appliance or tire belongs in the same load as boxes and broken furniture.

Loading-day checklist

  • Move vehicles before the truck arrives.
  • Measure gates, eaves, wires, and tree limbs.
  • Ask the owner or association about placement.
  • Keep children and pets away from the work zone.
  • Load evenly and stay below the fill line.

Share the address, bulky-item list, pile photos, driveway photo, and desired dates when you call.

Review the related Residential Dumpster Rental page, then call with the address, material list, placement details, and timing ready.
